2.OA.2 Math Facts Fluency Games

Snake 


To play: Place all cards down in a pile. The first player takes the top card and says theanswer as quickly as they can. If they answercorrectly, they get to keep the card. If they do not  answer correctly, the card  is returned  to  the bottom of the pile. The other players take turns repeating these actions. If a snake card is chosen from the  pile, that player returns all of  their cards to the bottom of the pile and play continues. If desired, a timer can be set to signal the end of thegame. The player with the most cards when thetimer goes off   wins.

Math Fact Memory Game

Materials
Deck of cards (minus K, Q, J)
Aces equal 1
Directions
1. The youngest student turns over 2 cards and adds them.
2. The student keeps the cards if he/she gets it right. Turns the cards back over if he/she
    gets it wrong.
3. The other student takes his/her turn.
4. The student with the most cards at the end of the game wins.

Math Facts Race Game

Materials:
Paper and Pencil
Directions
1. Each student gets a piece of paper and draws a T-chart on it.
2. The student with the longest hair picks a number 1 throught 20 and writes it on top of 
     the t-chart.
3. The student that has the most pairs wins the game.
4. The student that wins gets to pick the next number for the next turn.

Directions:
1. Roll the die and record the number you rolled on the recording form (link above).
2. Write the other number that would equal 10.

Materials:
2-4 players
1 deck of cards, minus the face cards

The game is played like Fish, except that each player is trying to make 10.
Directions
1. Deal out all the cards.
2. Each pair of cards that makes 10 is placed face up in front of the player who makes it.
3. The winner is the player with the most pairs when no more 10s can be formed. 

Addition and Subtraction Bump 

Bump is a math game that's been around for a while and there are many different versions of it. Basically, the kids roll dice, figure the sum and cover the answer with their marker. Click here to watch a video on how to play Bump.

Snappo

This fun math game comes from The Kentucky Center for Mathematics! This is a fantastic site (chock-full of games) from Mrs. T's First Grade. Check out her site for more game recommendations!

Snappo Directions (2 player game)
1. Divide uno cards (numbers only: 0-10) evenly among players. 
2. Players lay their cards face down in a pile.
3. Player one flips top card over and lays it on the table.
4. Player two flips his card over. If he can make 10, he captures both cards and says "snappo!" If he can't, he lays his card face up on the table.
5. Players keep taking turns, flipping cards, trying to make 10. They can use the cards on the table or cards opponent flips over. Their goal is to make 10, say snappo, and capture the most cards!

Game ends when there are no matches left. The player who captured the most cards wins!

FIND THE SUMS 

Flip Ten

Found on E is for Explore.
Fun addition card game from Guided Math! Kids line up cards in four rows of five. Then, they flip two cards over. If the sum of the two cards equals 10, they keep the cards and replace the cards with two more from the deck. The game ends when there are no more matches left. A match includes 6 and 4, 7 and 3, 8 and 2, 5 and 5. Whoever has the most cards wins the game!
Note: You can change the game and have kids flip ______. Give them a different sum each time they play. For example Flip 5, kids look for 0 and 5, 1 and 4, 2 and 3.

Dime Collector

2 player game: Each player gets a ten frame. Players take turns rolling a die. They count 2 player game: Each player gets a ten frame. Players take turns rolling a die. They count out the number of pennies the die lands on and place them on their ten frame. When a player fills his ten frame, he trades his pennies in for a dime. Play the game until kids get bored. The player with the most dimes wins!

Ten Frame Train

Found on E is for Explore. 
Explore ten frames and place value by creating a paper ten frame train. Kids construct a train out of construction paper. Then, they glue ten frames on the box cars, except for the caboose. They add "passengers" to each frame (sponge paint). Then, they figure out the number of passengers and write it on the caboose.

Fun idea I got from Play2LearnFirst Grade Garden, and Swamp Frog First Graders: Mr. Potato Head Math! Students roll 2 dice and practice addition with 2 one-digit addends. They refer to the sheet below to see what part of Mr. Potato Head to add next. The sum of the dice determines what part to insert.
